When it comes to search engine optimization, there are a lot of different ways one can go. SEO is a very broad field with lots and lots of different approaches and techniques that one can use to move up in the search engine rankings. Some of these approaches are totally legitimate and ethical; others lack integrity. The difference between the ethical/moral/principled use of SEO techniques and those of their counterparts is what separates black hat and white hat SEO.
